Networking is the least-shopped category in IT asset disposition — most sellers treat switches as an afterthought bundled with the servers, and most ITAD firms are happy to keep it that way. The AI buildout made certain switches extraordinary. NVIDIA Quantum-2 QM9700 NDR InfiniBand — the spine of H100 clusters — trades $18,000–$38,000 per switch because cluster builders need matched fabric and OEM lead times are long. HDR-generation QM8700s hold $6,000–$16,000. On the Ethernet side, 400G platforms (Arista 7280R3/7060X4, Nexus 9500 with -GX cards) run $5,000–$45,000 depending on configuration, and even workhorse 100G ToR switches — Nexus 9300, Arista 7050X3 — clear $1,800–$12,000 all day.
Two rules set the price. First: complete systems win. A switch with its power supplies, fans, line cards, and licenses documented clears 20–40% above a bare chassis; a fabric sold as a matched set (switches + ConnectX NICs + cables + optics) prices best of all. Second: optics are money. QSFP-DD and OSFP transceivers trade $150–$1,800 each in lots — a single drawer of 400G optics can outvalue a rack of old servers. Never let optics leave in a junk bin.
